“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”
To say that Corey was born into this group is an understatement. His parents were and are still active members of Scarborough Caribbean Sports Club, where Black Sage Carnival was born. While being an active soccer player for the club, the team would often come and lime at the Mas Camp after games. This is when Corey’s passion and love for the Carnival culture took hold and has lead him to take a more active role in the Toronto Caribana scene.
In 2007, Corey took his first step on the ‘big stage’ as ‘The Predator’. Even though he placed 11th in the King and Queen competition, the experience he gained in producing the costume ignited a further fire in him. In 2008, when Scarborough Caribbean Sports Club joined with Nip Davis and Associates, Corey began his internship to be band leader. His goal is to make this united organization, Black Sage Carnival, one of Toronto’s top Caribana Bands.
Over the years Corey has trained with some of the most experience men in the Caribana scene; Walter Elliott (Mas Designer), Nip Davis (Band Leader and Producer), Owen Hughes (Mas Producer in Toronto and Trinidad and Tobago) and Alvin Adore (Band Leader). The skills that Corey has accumulated over the years and his dedication and passion for Mas is the force that drives him to create a Mas Band that caters to all people.
“One of the great things in the world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.”
